Ghost Family (during COVID-19)

Material: stoneware with chamotte, surface: natural and painted with iron oxide
Height: 39 cm / 15,35″, Width: 14 cm / 5,51″, Depth: 9 cm / 3,54″

This unique statuette was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic. The individual faces of the uniform family formed from a single ceramic sheet are lost behind their masks. In their place, a faceless, anonymous fear as ghosts takes shape. On the naturalistic matt outside surface the red DNA line and the nail-like flowery branches stand out giving a dramatic impression. The dotted patterns of the Heart, the Sun and the DNA allow the light, representing the new hope to flow inside the statuette.

“My unique technique, with the flat plane turning into a three dimensional space, therefore allowing us to look the artwork from different viewpoints and see different aspects, gives expression to the universality and complexity of how the meaning of a single concept transforms through different viewpoints. It also represents how our perception is limited and we can observe only a few of all the dimensions. These views – though often clashing, finally complete each other and together form the whole.”
